SUAS | Sheffield University Architecture Society

SUAS is an inclusive society that aims to encourage a thriving social and educational scene within the School of Architecture by bringing together undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff who are studying, teaching or interested in architecture and it’s related fields.

SUAS aims to encourage a lively culture of architectural debate and learning, organising guest lectures, skills sessions, social events and everything in between.

Recent events include lecture series and lunchtime series, the latter being hosted by current PhD students, aiming to form more inclusive and diverse conversations within architectural research and education. Guests: Kristanti Dewi Paramita, Aya Musmar and Faith Chelang’at Ng’eno.

During the first semester of 2021, the society also founded the SUAS podcast ‘off the drawing board’, in which the team discusses contemporary issues that face us as current and future architects, with guests from the world of architecture and beyond, including Akil Scafe-Smith from ResolveCollective, Dr. Leslie Kern– author of Feminist City, and the writers of the Anti-racism at SSoA Call to Action letter.

The SUAS mentoring scheme, with the recently established ‘families’ system, allows groups of students across all years and backgrounds, to communicate and support each other, academically and socially.
