Title: Enhancing architecture education: how can tutors celebrate diversity and promote individuality in the design studio?
Author: Alice Grant
Year: 2019
Abstract: Architecture is often seen to be a white man’s profession; this creates homogeneous architecture and cities which do not respond to the needs of a diverse society (Murray 2018). This paper, recognising the importance of celebrating diversity in the profession, seeks to find ways in which tutors are able to encourage the individuality of students within the design studio. Action research is used as a tool to answer this question. Through this frame the power of recognising and talking about diversity within architecture schools will be assessed.
